Which service level fits your content?

The intended use sets the standard. We tailor the workflow, expertise and review stages to your content. All service levels include project management, incoming checks, analysis, scheduling and resource planning, communication and delivery.

Budget · from €0.04 per word

Project management coordinates machine translation followed by a formal check of the results. This two-step workflow suits internal training material, employee information and other internal texts with lower requirements, or content for further processing within your company.

This approach can also handle larger text volumes quickly. We check your content for suitability where needed. A formal check does not replace specialist editing.

Standard · from €0.08 per word

Specialist translation is followed by specialist editing and two quality checks. This four-step workflow suits technical documentation, specialist legal translations, and financial and insurance documents. We agree short delivery times around the volume and languages required.

Premium · from €0.12 per word

Specialist translation, specialist editing and multiple quality checks are complemented by your own translation memory. This service level suits demanding marketing copy, websites and printed brochures, as well as large and ongoing translation projects in all subject areas.

What affects the translation price

Language pair and translation direction

The source and target languages determine which qualified specialists are available. Translators generally work in the country of their target language; living costs and tax conditions affect the quote. Language pairs with English as the source or target language are often less expensive than rare combinations.

For languages with a smaller market, such as Maltese or Norwegian, limited availability of suitable specialists can increase the price. Rare combinations may require a bridge language: for example, German to English followed by English to Lao. These additional steps increase the work involved.

Subject area and complexity

More specialist translators are available for common subject areas than for highly specialised topics. Complex content requires more research and particularly qualified specialists. A popular science text has different requirements from an article for a specialist journal.

Text type and intended use

Marketing content may need adapting to cultural and regional expectations. Isolated terms often lack context and therefore require additional research. Slogans, proverbs and idioms call for creative adaptation.

Internal working documents have different requirements from content intended for publication. The required editing and review scope is therefore a price factor in its own right.

Text volume and project organisation

The overall volume within a given period also matters. For very small amounts of content, a flat price reflects translation work plus administration and payment processing. Large, planned volumes can be priced more efficiently. If many translators have to work in parallel at very short notice, organisation and coordination require more work.

Reuse that pays off

With Premium, we maintain a translation memory for your company. Previously translated segments can be reused for follow-up projects and updates, while terminology becomes more consistent. Suitable follow-up projects can save up to 50% in translation costs. The actual saving depends on repeated content and the project requirements.

You can provide your own glossaries, translation memories and translation databases. We maintain and extend them within the agreed scope.

Which repetitions count?

We consider fully or partially matching text segments within a document or across several documents. Recurring safety instructions in manuals for a product family are one example. Repetition of individual words alone is not considered.

Volume discounts

For annual translation needs above 250,000 words, we offer individual volume discounts. Quantity discounts are possible for large text volumes within normal delivery times. We discuss your requirements and planned workflows in advance.

Files, layout and data transfer

We work with all common formats: Office documents, PDF, HTML, XML, SQL, JSON, PHP and WordPress content, as well as printouts. You receive the translation in the agreed format of your choice. We agree a transfer method suited to your files.

What file preparation involves

Translations are usually produced in a copy of the original file. If necessary, we prepare the source content first. PowerPoint, Excel or PDF files may require adjustments to formatting, text length, line breaks and text boxes. Scanned documents may need optical character recognition (OCR).

If a translated PDF needs to reproduce the original layout exactly, the additional typesetting and formatting work is included in the quote. Text embedded in program code may require customised filters to separate code from translatable content and then reinsert the translation correctly.

Up to ten files with your enquiry

The enquiry form supports TLS-encrypted uploads of up to ten files: a maximum of 25 MB per file and 100 MB in total. Accepted formats are listed beside the upload field. Archives such as ZIP or SIT and executable files cannot be uploaded there. For other formats or larger amounts of data, we agree a suitable transfer method with you. The customer portal provides secure round-the-clock access to project information and files.

Delivery times and urgent projects

As a guide for smaller orders, our service lists 24 to 48 hours for one to three pages. Depending on volume and availability, small projects may also be delivered within 24 hours. The delivery date confirmed in your individual quote is always the agreed commitment.

For multilingual projects, we coordinate translations in parallel so that all language versions are ready together on the agreed date. For large text volumes and tight deadlines, several linguists can translate and edit simultaneously through our online team servers.

Flexible scheduling can reduce costs

A less urgent deadline makes resource planning easier and may reduce the price. A large volume needed in a very short time increases the work and cost of assembling teams, scheduling and project management. The translated sections are combined and checked for consistency and uniform specialist terminology.

Weekend work, public holidays or night shifts involve additional effort and may be charged at a higher rate. We confirm the specific workflow and price before you commission the project.

Quality, confidentiality and data security

All data and files are handled confidentially. Access is restricted to staff directly involved in your project. Strictly confidential data is marked as 'classified' during processing. On request, we enter into individual written confidentiality agreements.

After upload, data is stored securely and redundantly in our OTM project management system. Our servers are located in Germany. Secure connections are used for transfer and access.

Our quality management has been ISO 9001 certified and TÜV audited since 2006. Our information security management is ISO 27001 compliant. Experienced project managers coordinate preparation, deadlines and communication.
