creative adaptation?

Adapting an advertising slogan into another language is a creative process comparable to developing effective new advertising copy. Like the original creation, it involves several stages.

Unlike copywriting in a single language, transcreation combines translation and creation. It can also be described as adaptation for target-language markets.

Marketing translation therefore requires extensive intercultural competence and sound PR and copywriting expertise in addition to translation skills.

Every transcreation begins with research into the strategies and formulations used to advertise the product in the target country. The concept phase follows, exploring wording and developing statements. The result is a new slogan in the target language that conveys the underlying intention, has an engaging and memorable verbal form, and is tailored to the intended audience.

Developing advertising slogans

An advertising slogan always has a distinctive individual character. We therefore use two to three different marketing translators to develop slogans in other languages. They live in their native-language country, have the necessary PR expertise and are familiar with local advertising conventions. Transcreation produces three to nine target-language slogan variants, which we provide with explanations and a ranking.
