Production in detail
Voice, language and technology work together. Explore the requirements and services for your medium.
Voice-over adds a separately recorded voice to a film. It may provide off-screen commentary or translate an interview while the original remains quietly audible. Conventional dubbing instead aligns the new speech with mouth movements; requirements are agreed beforehand.
We have the right voices. Listen to an exclusive selection in your browser, comment and coordinate with colleagues or partners. Agencies and production companies can receive casting pages with their own branding in German and English.
We prepare production-ready scripts or adapt your narration text. If no script exists, transcription can supply the source. Native-speaking translation accounts for duration, visuals and audience. Subtitles can also be produced.
Performers prepare the approved text. Recording uses a separate track; direction monitors content, pronunciation and cues. Sound engineers edit, process and mix the recording. After the preliminary mix is reviewed, the agreed final version is created by our team or yours.
The audio price list distinguishes standalone recording from voice-over aligned to picture. It explains included services and usage rights. Paid advertising, larger volumes, several roles or special deliverables are agreed according to intended use in the quote.

Voice-over places a separately recorded spoken text over an existing film sequence. For example, an interview with a French speaker can be given a German voice-over, or a documentary can receive English narration for international distribution.
Voice-over differs from conventional dubbing. Dubbing might provide a lip-synchronised German version of an English-language film. Voice-over does not generally follow mouth movements: it may be an off-screen voice, such as the explanation in an e-learning module, or a translation with the original voice still audible in the background.
Clients often need to produce material about current topics quickly. This calls for an efficient production process.
The original article describes zappmedia’s certified online project management software OTM® as a means of processing project stages quickly.
High-quality voice-over requires both experienced people and suitable professional equipment.
A voice-over that fits existing picture or sound material starts with a detailed review of the recordings, taking account of both their information and their atmosphere.
Commentary needs an authentic, informative script. For interviews, the original speaking times are measured and an appropriate translation prepared where needed.
Suitable voices must be selected in every case, with clear pronunciation and a voice type appropriate to the material.
Performers familiarise themselves with the text or carry out a rehearsal. Single-voice narration can usually be recorded promptly; several roles, such as dialogue voice-over, need more production time.
Precise timing is essential, particularly in interviews but also in documentaries. Viewers can find mismatches distracting and perceive them as a sign of poor production quality.
The voice-over is recorded on a separate track and mixed with other sounds where needed. After reviewing a preliminary mix, zappmedia’s sound team or the client creates the final combination of picture and sound.
Voice-over is used across many media. In film, an outside narrator may guide the story, while a first-person narrator describes events from their own perspective. Trailers are another form: the voice and selected excerpts create interest in a film or television production.
In documentaries and reports, narration explains or comments on footage recorded in real situations. This adds information and allows viewers to compare their own impressions of the pictures with what the narration says.
In cartoons and games, voice-over helps audiences understand the plot, creates suspense and increases engagement. Other uses are primarily informative: industrial videos, product presentations for sales or training, educational videos, tutorials and podcasts.
The original article presents zappmedia’s voice-over production as competitively priced.
It describes processes optimised for fast, cost-effective voice-over production and refers to ISO certification and TÜV assessment. The current company certification is stated separately in the facts section above.
