The right level of review

The review
your text needs.

Formal correction, stylistic editing or comparison with the original: we agree the right review before work begins.

Proofreading

Spelling, grammar, punctuation and formal presentation.

Editing & revision

Wording, style, specialist terminology and targeted text improvement.

Proofing & testing

Completeness and correct display in the print layout or digital product.

Language quality assurance

Your text.
The right eyes.

Our editors are native speakers of the language being reviewed. We select them by text type, subject and requirements. You specify whether the work covers formal correction, style or editorial changes to content.

For multilingual publication, we recommend a coordinated sequence: improve and proofread the source text, review the translation against the original, then check the finished language layouts or digital applications.

The scope in detail

Every review stage
has a purpose.

We distinguish monolingual correction, editorial work, bilingual revision and final approval checks.

Monolingual proofreading

We review the source text for spelling, grammar and syntax. This includes punctuation and correct presentation of hyphenation, indentation, units, figures and lists.

This stage focuses on formal accuracy. More extensive changes to style or content require the corresponding editing or text optimisation scope.

Monolingual editing

Editing reviews formal and content accuracy. We also improve wording and expression, and check specialist terms for suitability and consistency where required.

The aim is a coherent, fluent and engaging text in the agreed style.

Text optimisation and editorial rewriting

We improve German and foreign-language texts to your requirements for clarity, expression and style. Unlike purely stylistic editing, this can include changes to content.

Sentences can be rewritten and sections shortened, expanded or reorganised. We can summarise texts on request. The text’s purpose and intended audience guide the work.

Bilingual revision of translations

We compare the translation with the source sentence by sentence, checking that the content and intention have been conveyed appropriately and precisely.

  • Interpret and convey the content accurately.
  • Check completeness and identify unjustified omissions or additions.
  • Use the agreed and industry-specific terminology.
  • Transfer measurements, figures and labels into the correct target format.
  • Check grammar and syntax.
  • Follow the target language’s spelling and punctuation conventions.
Layout proofing: the final print document

We review the typeset text for completeness, correct line breaks and hyphenation, and implementation of the source and other layout requirements.

Layout proofing is a separate final review after text editing and typesetting. It prepares the final version for print approval.

Linguistic testing for digital media

Testing is the corresponding final review for software, online training, websites and audiovisual media. We check completeness and correct display in the target environment.

Where text cannot be edited directly, we record corrections screen by screen in a separate script, so changes can be implemented in the product.

Pre-editing: improve content before translation

Ambiguities and errors in the source can multiply during multilingual production. Pre-editing reviews and prepares content before further processing, improving the basis for every language version.

This includes editorial improvements, clarity and consistent terminology, adaptation to cultural or market-specific requirements, and technical preparation of formatting and encoding.

Well-prepared texts can reduce later corrections and post-editing, speed up production and save time and cost. The benefit depends on the source material and workflow.

Post-editing and texts for media production

In post-editing, language specialists review and correct software-translated content. The review level, intended use and quality target are agreed beforehand; terminology and the source text remain the basis.

For voice recordings, we prepare production-ready scripts. Transcription with the necessary timecodes, translation of texts for spoken delivery and subtitles in the agreed languages and formats can be ordered separately or within a multilingual media production.

From first draft to approval

Clear writing.
A clear process.

The review stages build on each other and can be commissioned individually or together.

  1. Agree the aim & review

We agree the purpose, audience, languages, requirements and scope of the work.

  2. Prepare the source

Editing, proofreading or pre-editing creates a reliable basis for further production.

  3. Review the translation

We compare source and target texts against the agreed review requirements.

  4. Check the final context

Layout proofing or linguistic testing reviews the text in the final layout or product.

Frequently asked questions

A quick question.
A clear answer.

How do proofreading and editing differ?

Proofreading mainly checks formal accuracy. Editing also addresses style, expression and, where required, specialist consistency. Editorial changes to content form part of text optimisation.

What do you need to review a translation?

The target text and its source, plus existing terminology, style requirements, audience and intended use. For layout proofing or testing, we also need the final layout or access to the agreed target environment.

Is there a test for proofreaders?

Yes. Our existing German website offers a proofreading test for aspiring proofreaders.
